After-Hours Things To Do
Located in the Concourse Hotel and Governor's Club, the Careers Conference 2009 is in the heart of Madison's bustling downtown. Madison's downtown is a lively and energetic neighborhood with an array of museums, music venues, and theater as well as a variety of shops and restaurants.
The Concourse is within walking distance of Madison's unique and eclectic State Street, a dining and shopping experience for anyone looking to leave the ordinary behind. With a number of noteworthy shops and ethnic dining experiences, State Street is a must-see for any visitor to Madison.
At the end of State Street, visit Wisconsin's Capitol Building, a National Historic Landmark. Construction began in 1857 and the building took 60 years to complete at a total cost of only $7.2 million. A beautiful attraction to see while in Madison.

1:30 - 5:30 pm
(sightseeing tour-no credit available)
Take in the sights of Madison on a comfortable, climate-controlled trolley! Careers Conference 2009 attendees have an opportunity to take a customized tour of Madison. First, take a tour of the Olbrich Botanical Gardens, a place dedicated to the creation, conservation, and interpretation of gardens and plant collections hardy to the American Midwest or native to the world's tropical forests. This tour will highlight diverse plant and animal life as you stroll through Olbrich's Bolz Conservatory guided by Olbrich's Observatory Staff and have the opportunity to ask questions of the professional staff. Discover some of the other wonders of Madison as the tour continues through the city with a second stop at our State Capitol Building. Enjoy a tour of the capitol building while learning about the history of the building, including the devastating 1904 fire that eventually gave rise to the building you see today. Finally, ride to the beautiful UW-Madison Campus and appreciate a tour provided by expert guides from the UW-Madison Visitor's Center. You'll also be making a stop at UW-Madison's Kohl Center, to see the Chihuly Glass artwork, and Babcock Hall, a favorite spot on campus where you can try some UW-Madison made ice cream and do a little "dairy" shopping. If your spouse is traveling with you, this is a great way to spend time together, or for your spouse to explore Madison while you attend other Monday events.
