Answers to test your knowledge PowerPoint tutorial
1. You have the PPT slide shown below
(PowerPoint Slide with an image). The purpose of the image is to illustrate
some activities that kids do in the preschool. Is this slide accessible?
No. This slide is not accessible.
2. If not, what is missing?
It is missing notes in the “notes pane” to describe the picture.
3. What would you add?
Based on the purpose of the picture, I will add notes that describe the
picture such as: this slide show a picture of 2 children about 3 to 4
years old, playing in a playground and being assisted by an adult.
4. How do you know when you are using
the normal view in your power point presentation?
You know you are using the normal view when you can see in your screen
the three panes: outline pane, slide pane, and notes pane.
5. If you are going to create a slide
that contains only a title, which of the auto layouts shown below would
you choose? (answer indicated with a square)
6.Why?
Because this is the auto layout that better fits the needs for only a
title in a slide. This auto layout will generate an outline making the
slide accessible.
7. A person is going to create a slide
that contains a title, some text, and a graphic. Is the auto layout chosen
(see figure below) marked in circle a good choice?
No
8.Why?
A blank auto layout is not an accessible one since the information that
is entered in this type of slide will be considered as an image. Therefore,
it will not create an outline of the information. If this auto layout
is used, you should describe all information on the slide in the notes
pane.
9. What would be a better choice and
explain why?
A better choice for a slide that contains a title, some text and a graphic
will be one of four choices shown below. These auto layouts will automatically
create an outline. The graphic should be described on the notes pane.

10. If I have a decorative image on a slide, should
I describe it?
Not necessarily.
11. Why?
Decorative images do not provide additional information concerning the
purpose of the slide. Therefore, there is no need to describe them.
12. What are the elements that should
be described in the Notes Pane?
Graphics in general (pictures, flow charts, tables, logos). The description
should be based on the purpose of that graphic (e.g. what the Professor
wants the student to get out of it)
13. Why?
Graphics and images are not accessible for everyone. Their description
in the notes pane will allow people using screen readers to be able to
know that there are images on the slide and what those images are.
