Sloan Project for Diversity in STEM Retention
Purpose
The purpose of this project is to improve retention of STEM students from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups. Through intensive empirical investigations into their academic and career development, the aim of this project is to deepen the knowledge base of what factors facilitate retention for the targeted groups and how these factors vary as a function of race/ethnicity, gender, and STEM area of study. It is expected that existing retention programs will be adapted to reflect the results of these studies and consequently will redirect retention efforts to focus on those culturally-relevant factors identified by students as having the greatest impact on their retention.
